Uses and Benefits of charcoal

Charcoal, is also known as ‘black magic’. Charcoal has  been used for many years for its great healing and adsorption properties. 
Let us check some of its uses throughout ancient times and we will find out why charcoal remained an important part of the ancient times.

  1. Charcoal was used to treat stomach ailments in 8000 BC By native americans. It was powdered and then mixed with water.
  2. Ancient Egyptians in 3750BC used to make Bronze by using charcoal to smelt ores.
  3. To Mask festering wound odour Eggptians in 1500 BC used charcoal due to its Adsorption properties.
  4. Ancient Hindus And Phoenicians in 400 BC used charcoal to purify drinking water.
  5. Romans in 27 BC made toothpaste by
  6. Mixing charcoal powder,  crushed bones, oyster shells and bark.
  7. 50AD Hippocrates, the Greek physician considered the father of natural medicine, treated many patients’ ailments with activated carbon Including epilepsy, chlorosis and vertigo.
  8. in 1794 Carbon was revealed to be a successful decolouring agent, and particularly helped to produce white sugar.
  9. 1820 Used to treat poultices, slough ulcers and treat gangrenous sores, charcoal was recorded in medical journals as an antidote for poison, and a treatment for intestinal disorders.
  10. 1915 Activated carbon was placed in gas masks by American soldiers in WW1, as a protective measure against poison gas.
  11. 1979 By 1979 activated charcoal was widely employed for industrial use, to purify drinking water and industrial waste, and to offset toxic gases. It was also used to clean bottles and winery tanks.
